Musica da Camera regularly invites conductors and soloists for its quarterly concerts and most concerts are played in Canberra and reprised in a local town over one weekend. This concert was blessed with two of Canberra's most prominent musicians although at different ends of their musical careers and was performed in Goulburn in one of our favourite venues.
We could say this is a concert of young and old. Musica da Camera was approaching its 40th year, so perhaps we could say middle aged. At one end of the age range, we featured our much-loved and -admired local soprano, Louise Page, who was in her final year before retirement. At the other end, we were directed by our youthful and very respected director, Leonard Weiss, who has since expanded his studies beyond Australia to the Peabody Conservatory in the USA. And for this program, our strings were augmented by clarinets and horns from another local institution, Canberra's National Capital Orchestra.
Thanks to all for a deeply satisfying concert of profoundly touching arias.
